I spent almost 10 years living off the grid from the mid 70's to the mid 80's and it was quite an experience because I did it with what equipment was available back then and of course like always, I was totally under funded, but it worked! I now live in a different house in a different city and I have commercial power. Last year my neighbors and friends all laughed when I told them I was thinking about using solar power again, this time to help reduce my power bill. They told me that it would be too expensive and I’d be crazy to even try.
However I knew better because I had done it before, more than 20 years ago. Back then, unlike today, it was much more difficult to find parts including solar panels. Today it's so much easier plus now you can get big tax breaks and rebates for saving money and using green power.
Not wanting to spend a lot of money on this project, I did some research on where to get cheap parts and solar panels. I found out there’s a ton of information out there. Some of it really good and some of it a little sketchy. After a lot of looking I did find one information product I liked called “Green DIY Energy” I bought it because it looked like it had great videos and it does! With that information, the whole thing became an inexpensive and fun project.
A few weeks later after I got the panels installed the roof, my grid tie power inverter working, I knew that I was now saving money every month on my power bill. This whole project turned out to be easier then I ever imagined and armed with my new up to date Green DIY Energy guide it’s even easier! My system is expanable so every few months, as I build new panels, I’ll add them to the array and start to save even more money.
I have a friend who lives near San Deigo California who put solar panels on his carport roof and he generates enough surplus power that his electric company sends him a check every month!
Today I’m helping my friends, the same ones who said it would never work, build their own solar power systems. Everyone says I should start a business doing this. Perhaps I should.
